Decatur Island

Every year, we try to spend some time in the San Juan Islands in Washington State. This year, we relaxed on Decatur Island taking in the Madrona trees, fresh sea air, PNW rain, and even hunted for some dungeness crab.

This year was our first Thanksgiving in California and it was a blistering 80 degrees. We still had a great time. We cooked up loads of delicious food, and made a table to share our feast over! The wood is from a local shop, Made Lumber Supply, and was trucked from an Amish Farmer in Michigan. The slab is Black Walnut. We had it professionally planed and hewn, and then did the finish sanding and varnish with Danish Oil ourselves. Table legs were purchased from Etsy. The end product is lovely and a great place to have dinner in our tiny apartment!

Catalina Island

This arid, beautiful island lies 30 miles outside of Dana Point, accessible via small ferry boat. We camped for a couple days, hiked amongst the wild buffalo, and sea kayaked.

Super Bloom

Once every 10 years or so, a big rain comes and rehydrates all of the latent seeds that are deeply embedded into the dirt. This year we got lucky, and the California Poppy's overwhelmed and amazed! These flowers were found in the hills near Lake Elsinore.

Joshua Tree

Weekend get away for some hiking and climbing in Joshua Tree National Park, just 2 hours from San Diego. We are enjoying the warm days, cold nights, and harsh desert landscape, a stark contrast to the Pacific Northwest.
