Arken Museum of Modern Art

Wonderful modern art museum, 30 minutes by train southwest of Copenhagen. I wonder why there is such a prominent museum in this tiny town, but it is worth the journey. The building itself is loaded with impressive spaces, from tiny deep red corridors to wide open rooms lit only from above. The exhibits were great too, featuring permanent works from Scandinavian artists Jeppe Hein and Olufar Eliasson, and visiting works from Chinese dissident Ai Wei Wei, and Austrian visionary Hundertwasser.

Bagsværd Church

This church was designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon in 1968, most famous for the Sydney Opera House. The church is located in a little town called Bagsværd, 45 minutes by bike north of Copenhagen. The exterior of the church appears rather plain, clad in concrete panels. You enter at the side into a hallway that wraps around the central space. The hallway is filled with light and interesting shadows from the skylights above. The materials are also faint in color, all the furniture a white-washed wood. Venturing further down, enter a small compressed space which enhances the big beautiful room you are about to see. Ah! The main space of the Bagsværd church has a rolling ceiling meant to look like clouds rumbling in the sky. Light streams in from slits in the ceiling. It is floating. All together, a very nice Saturday afternoon.

Football!

This is a rowdy bunch! Sneaking fireworks, smoke bombs, and all sorts of shenanigans into the stadium sure makes for an interesting game. Kobenhavn vs Brondby ended in a tie, scored by Kobenhavn in the 90th minute. What a match!  The stadium is smack dab in the center of the city and adjacent to a huge park, so all the fans come to spend the afternoon in the park. It is so much fun, and energy is high!
